Walt Disney & his nephew Charles Elias Disney were always close...
Walt Disney and his nephew Charles Elias Disney were always quite close! They both shared the same middle name coming from Elias Charles Disney, Walt's father and Charles' paternal grandfather respectively. Charles Elias' father was Raymond Arnold Disney, one of the older brothers to Walt Disney.
Meredith A. Disney, Charles Elias' mother, was also close to Lillian Disney, Uncle Walt's wife. On many occasions Charles Elias and his parents Raymond and Meredith Disney would enjoy Sunday afternoons with Walt and Lilly and their daughters Diane and Sharon in their home at 355 Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. Often they would be riding on Walt's train known as the "Carolwood Pacific Railroad" that surrounded his home and gardens which was always fun with uncle Walt serving as the engineer! Walt's love of trains began when his family lived in Marceline, Missouri and when he sold newspapers and confectionary items on the trains between Marceline and Kansas City.
Charles Elias Disney and his uncle Walt Disney were both members of the Mother Chapter of the Order of DeMolay in Kansas City, Missouri. Walt was initiated in March of 1920 at the age of nineteen and Charles Elias was initiated in March of 1955 at the age of fourteen. Walt and Charles Elias often spoke of their memberships in this wonderful fraternity that has always encouraged young men to develop leadership skills and good moral character. DeMolay was originally founded by Frank S. Land in Kansas City, Missouri and Walt Disney was initiated as an early member of the Mother Chapter and later was awarded with the DeMolay Legion of Honor by DeMolay founder Frank S. Land.

As the years have passed, Charles Elias Disney recalls so many wonderful times spent with his uncle Walt Disney. And when Uncle Walt passed away in 1966, it was a very sad time for millions of people worldwide, including Charles Elias Disney who stated: "There will never be another Walt Disney! He really encompassed the countless wonderful qualities of faith, family, friends, and America!
Uncle Walt often reminded us to be kind, thoughtful, caring, and faithful, and to "ALWAYS REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE."
In semi-retirement, Charles Elias Disney has continued to be quite active in his Catholic Church and with the foundation working to protect endangered wild and domestic animals, and as a contributor/editor to various publications and an active advisor to numerous individuals engaged with the film and various entertainment enterprises!

“When we, Imagineers, started the development of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we knew that we were entering a new territory of storytelling. These stories were not fantasies, but real. They were not classic tales, but ongoing epics whose conclusions are still unknown. They were not ours alone, but shared with people all around the world, who lived with and cared about the lives of wild creatures. We could not tell such stories unless we ourselves participated in the reality we were describing, contributed to the epic struggle, and shared our skill and our commitment with people around the world. Thus, we concluded that an entity like the Disney Conservation Fund was essential to our story. Without it, our own words and actions would be empty.
The story of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Disney Conservation Fund is not just a story that we tell. It’s a story we are living every day, every one of us. All of us on Earth share this planet with every living creature and with the systems that sustain them. For two decades now, through the actions of the Disney Conservation Fund, we’ve worked towards our dream: a dream of a future for our children in which there is still magic in the forest, the magic that comes from the countless miraculous creatures, some yet undiscovered, that share with us a tiny delicate place amidst a sea of distant stars.”

The Wildlife Conservation Network has established an unparalleled
In celebration of the release of Disney’s 2019 The Lion King, the groundbreaking feature film helmed by Jon Favreau and opened in theaters on July 19, 2019, The Walt Disney Company is proud to announce a global conservation campaign to raise awareness and support the dwindling lion population across Africa.
Since Disney’s The Lion King was first released in theaters 25 years ago, half of Africa’s lions have disappeared. Lions face rising threats, such as poaching, loss of prey and destruction of habitats. However, research shows the lion population can recover.
Disney has already donated more than $2 million to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) and its partners, and will make additional grants as well as invite fans to participate and help increase the donation—for a total contribution of up to $3 million. Fans may participate by taking part in celebratory experiences and purchasing special edition products, as part of The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign.
The Willdlife Conversation Network has established an unparalleled reputation for how they head, manage and evaluate the programs they oversee. The Lion Recovery Fund is one of their premiere programs that supports organizations working across Africa to double the number of lions in the wild by 2050. By protecting lions, we also are protecting the health and well-being of the savanna, wildlife and communities who live alongside them.

Patricia Ann Disney originally had planned to sponsor
Charles Elias Disney & Daniel H. Disney
In 1983 in California
Patricia Ann "Patty" Dailey Disney wife, of Roy Edward Disney in 1983, had planned to sponsor Roy's first cousins who are brothers Charles Elias Disney and Daniel Harwood Disney as they were preparing for Confirmation into the Roman Catholic Church. Circumstances beyond anyone's control prevented this confirmation from occurring as originally planned!
Patty was a lifelong devout active Roman Catholic and she inspired many people throughout her lifetime! She was an example of a really wonderful lifetime cousin and friend and Patty and Roy along with Meredith A. Disney and her sons Charles Elias Disney and Daniel Harwood Disney were all quite close and involved with, and among other things, raising funds and advocating for the new Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles, California that was dedicated on September 2, 2002, when Roy E. and Patty Disney and Charles Elias and Daniel H. Disney were all seated together for the inspiring new Catholic Cathedral dedication. Sadly, Meredith A. Disney had passed away in 1998.

Where the Elias & Flora Disney Family Worshiped
This is the church where the Disney Family worshiped when they resided in Kansas City, Missouri. Disney parents Elias Charles Disney and his wife Flora Call Disney liked to sit near the front so as to "not miss anything the pastor taught!" All of their children were Herbert, Raymond, Roy, Walt, and Ruth, and they always attended Sunday morning worship services and often attended Wednesday evening prayer services in this historical church. Young Walt said: "I liked to sit in the balcony so I could have an overview of the entire structure of the church."
Young Walt Disney would stand on the corner of 36th and Walnut Streets and think that his church "looked like a castle!" And very likely this church architecture greatly influenced Walt in later years as he began to plan for the building of Disneyland in Anaheim, California, because when he talked about the influence of architecture, he often would refer to Westminster Congregational Church in Kansas City!
Actually, this church is a short distance from Walt Disney's original studio he named Laugh-O-gram Studio that was located in the McConahay Building at 1127 East 31st Street and Forest Avenue on the second floor. This building is still in existence today and plans are in the works to restore this historical building to resemble the location when young Walt Disney actually began his career AND where Mickey Mouse was born as the result of a pet mouse Walt Disney actually would feed and care for that he had named "Mortimer!"

Charles Elias Disney has been a lifetime advocate for wild animals...
Charles Elias Disney has been an advocate for wild animals in Africa and India for many years. He has spent much time working to save lions (Panthera leo) species and Panthera tigris tigris, are commonly known as the Bengal tiger. He believes that illegal poaching and over-hunting is depleting so many great animals throughout the African Continent and in India as well, and in other places. Unless illegal poaching is brought under control, it is estimated that several species will be completely depleted in less than 30-40 years or less!
In the past 25 years since Disney's original "The Lion King" was produced, over fifty per cent of the earth's Lions and Tigers have been reduced by illegal poaching and hunting!
These wonderful animals deserve to be protected and the governments in Africa and India have a responsibility to see to it that many laws are enforced NOW! Before it is too late!

Ricky Nelson & Charles Elias Disney were lifetime close friends...
Reflections from longtime friend to Rick and Charles Elias by Winifred Larson
Ricky Nelson and Charles Elias Disney were lifetime close friends. Both friends were born in 1940 and had many of the same interests throughout their lifetimes. Often Ricky would come to the Disney home in Newport Beach, California and Charles Elias (Chuck) would visit the Nelson's in Beverly Hills, California. When Ricky, then "Rick," decided he wanted to be a rock singer, it was Charles Elias who approached Rick's dad Ozzie Nelson in 1957 and he really helped convince him to approach MCA (Music Corporation of America) about Rick cutting a recording. And as they say "the rest is history!"
Ricky said of his close friend Charles Elias: "Chuck, because of his own sincerity and love, really did convince my dad (Ozzie Nelson) that I could perhaps become a rock singer and that I should be encouraged to cut a record to prove this to be true!"
Of course, Ricky and his brother David Nelson were the sons of Ozzie and Harriett Nelson who starred in the very popular television series known as "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" from 1952 to 1966. It was in 1957, when Ricky recorded his first single, debuted as a singer on the television version of the sitcom, and released the No. 1 album titled "Ricky."
Rick's mother Harriet Nelson and Charles Elias' mother who was Meredith A. Disney were close longtime friends and often they often enjoyed socializing and even on occasion playing Bridge and Canasta.
Ricky said of his close friend Charles Elias: "Chuck, because of his own sincerity and love, really did convince my dad (Ozzie Nelson) that I could perhaps become a rock singer and that I should be encouraged to cut a record to prove this to be true!"

When Ricky and Charles Elias were having fun they would sometimes go to Minnesota where they enjoyed swimming, fishing, water skiing, golfing, camping and exploring backwoods trails and often finding very old logging trails that were mostly grown over with pine trees and underbrush. Charles Elias' father who was Raymond E. Disney, enjoyed being with the boys and they occasionally stayed at Boyd Lodge on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes in the cozy area of Crosslake, Minnesota. The Lynn and Ceil and Nancy Boyd Family were longtime friends of the Disney's as are Roger and Nancy Schwieters, the current owners and operators of this historic and beautiful family Boyd Lodge!
Both friends Rick and Charles Elias went on to marry and have their own families and they often were in touch, and on occasion both friends would socialize, if even by long telephone conversations. When Rick passed away, he left behind a wonderful legacy and it was quite difficult for Charles Elias Disney to realize his lifetime close friend had passed from this life!
The death of Ricky Nelson at age 45 resulted from a crash landing of his band's aircraft, a Douglas DC-3, on December 31, 1985, outside De Kalb, Texas. Rick and six others, including several band members and Nelson's girlfriend, Helen Blair, were killed in the incident, while both pilots survived. The suspected cause of the forced landing was a faulty in-cabin heater that caught fire mid-flight.
Sadly, the night when Rick passed away, it was Meredith and son Charles Elias who came and stayed with Harriet until David Nelson, Rick's older brother, was able to return home to be with Harriet and the family.
Charles Elias Disney said of his good friend Rick Nelson: "I was blessed to have had such a friend. Among other things, the two of us enjoyed our growing years in California and even going over to Minnesota fishing, swimming, and golfing! These times were some of the best times in my own life and I shall think about Rick Nelson and the entire Nelson clan for the rest of my life! I have missed my friend Rick, but I believe he is in Heaven and likely entertaining God and all of His Saints!"

Michael Jackson was a longtime good friend...
Thoughts and reflections from Charles Elias Disney
"Michael Joseph Jackson was a longtime good friend to me and to my brother Daniel as well."
I first met Michael at Disneyland in Anaheim, California many years ago and we were able to have a very long and wonderful visit. Our initial mutual interest, it seems, was our faith in God! And in the years since our first meeting, we had many long visits and our conversations were quite enlightening, and I will say even quite inspiring, as our mutual love for Jesus allowed for us to become really good and close friends!
I shall always cherish my friendship with Michael for the rest of my life! He was also a sincere admirer of my uncle Walt Disney and Michael often told me he felt quite close to Walt Disney because he could see and really appreciate all of the beautiful images Walt created for the world. Michael said he regretted not having had the opportunity to ever meet my uncle Walt in person.
I was taught to love and respect everyone and in addition to my friendship with Michael Jackson, I was an admirer of his music, and as well, his truly extraordinary talent on so many levels. My brother Daniel and I were Michael's guests at his Neverland Ranch on several occasions and those were such exciting experiences because each visit allowed for us to grow even closer to God and to Nature! His ranch captivated our hearts and to see his family of various animals in the ranch zoo was especially inspiring for us. And, I happened to be his guest at Neverland on the very day in 1991 his close and dear friend Elizabeth Taylor personally presented Michael with a beautiful African elephant named "Gypsy" for his zoo!
"Michael's family was everything to him. Without all of the clutter life can hold for each one of us, I could see how much love he held in his heart for his family, and his extended families, and his countless fans worldwide!"
I shall close by saying, "Michael Joseph Jackson impacted my own life in such a positive way, and I am most thankful for the times we spent together both at his Neverland Ranch and on numerous other occasions. Along with Michael Jackson, my brother Daniel H. Disney and I attended the Funeral Mass in 2003 for actor Gregory Peck in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. The following year, the three of us drove up to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California where we spent several hours and enjoyed a really great lunch and a personal visit with Nancy Reagan! As it was to be, this was the final time I was able to spend time with Michael. My brother and I always really enjoyed being with our good and loving friend Michael."
May God bless my memory of Michael, and I do continue to pray for his Eternal Soul, and that God in His Infinite Mercy loves each one of us and He forgives each one of us for each of our missteps, our sins, and our transgressions...as long as we truly repent, and seek God's forgiveness!

Michael Jackson really loved everything "Disney!"
"Michael Jackson was a very longtime admirer of everything Disney!" He and his children enjoyed their visits to the Magic Kingdom on many occasions. Michael also was a featured entertainer at Disneyland
Michael said: "When I think of Walt Disney, one of the things I often think about is how the hard work, creativity, and the dream of one man could create the massive empire that Disney is today. So inspiring!"
Michael Jackson has been quoted as saying about Walt Disney, "I have such admiration for Mr. Walt Disney and what he accomplished with the help of so many talented artists. When I think about the joy he and his company have brought to millions of children - and adults - the world over, I am in awe."

Lyrics to Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone"
Michael told me this:
"I intend this song to speak to everyone..."
Charles Elias Disney
"Another day has gone
I'm still all alone
How could this be?
You're not here with me
You never said goodbye
Someone tell me why
Did you have to go?
And leave my world so cold
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away?
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone
'Lone, 'lone
Why, 'lone
Just the other night
I thought I heard you cry
Asking me to come
And hold you in my arms
I can hear your prayers
Your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand
Then forever can begin
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away?
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone
Whisper three words and I'll come running
And girl you know that I'll be there
I'll be there
That you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
For you are not alone (You are not alone)
For I am here with you (I am here with you)
Though you're far away (Though you're far away)
I am here to stay (You and me)
For you are not alone (You're always in my heart)
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
For you are not alone
Not alone, oh
You are not alone
You are not alone
Say it again
You are not alone
You are not alone
Not alone, not alone
If you just reach out for me girl
In the morning, in the evening
Not alone, not alone
You and me
Not alone
Oh, together, together
Gotta stop being alone
Gotta stop being alone"

Brothers Daniel H. Disney & Charles Elias Disney on the Disney Legends Plaza at The Walt Disney Company. The plaid jacket worn by Charles Elias Disney was one of Walt Disney's favorite jackets and was given to Charles Elias Disney by his first cousin Diane Disney Miller who is Walt Disney's daughter!
Charles Elias Disney established MovieView Magazine and
Central Cinema Company and he was the co-founder of
LodeStar Pictures...
Charles Elias Disney was the founding editor and publisher for MovieView Magazine in 1959 that was long associated with Boxoffice Magazine. He also contributed articles for Circus World Magazine. He established Central Cinema Company in 1970, operating numerous theatres in the Midwest. He co-founded LodeStar Pictures with his mother (Meredith A. Disney) in 1956 and this entity was established as an independent private film financing enterprise and in later years Charles Elias and Meredith Disney expanded LodeStar Pictures to include David Nelson and Daniel H. Disney as working partners.
LodeStar Pictures originally established offices in Kansas City, Missouri in the historic Scarritt Building, and later maintained offices at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood and later Walt Disney Productions in Burbank, California and finally in downtown Hollywood. Some years ago, LodeStar Pictures merged with another film enterprise and ceased to operate under the LodeStar name.
In retirement, Charles Elias Disney has occupied most of his time with helping so many others and advocating for endangered animals especially creatures found in Africa and India and are being completely decimated, and in the not so distant future, may well be completely eliminated and eradicated from the Earth! Also, the ongoing battle to preserve the Sanctity of Life for the unborn and the born. Charles Elias states: "Life is a glorious gift from God and must be honored and preserved from the womb to the tomb, today, more than at any other time in history! The Life issue is what I firmly believe because this is exactly what my Roman Catholic Faith teaches, and I do fully trust in my Church!"
AND Charles Elias Disney really loves to be in close contact with his family and friends!
